Message from the District Administrator
Welcome to the Port Edward School District's facility planning webpage. The district plans to place two referendum questions on the April 2024 ballot. The first question is for a five-year $850,000/year non-recurring operational referendum. Funds will be used to maintain education programs and pay for operating expenses. The district passed a successful referendum in 2019 for operational costs that ends this year. The proposed referendum would replace that, resulting in no estimated tax impact for residents.
The second question on the April 2024 ballot will be for a $7.3 million capital referendum to address deferred maintenance needs. The district utilized a third-party consultant to create a long-term maintenance plan in March 2023, The audit identified nearly $20 million in needs. The district formed a Facility Advisory Committee (FAC) of community members that met several times to review and prioritize projects. The referendum scope and dollar amount are a result of those planning sessions.
This webpage contains additional information about proposed projects and the estimated tax impact. The FAC worked hard to create a project list that satisfies the district's needs within the community's budget. Please familiarize yourself with the information and contact me or any Board of Education member with questions.
